FortisBC

FortisBC Rebates:
Dual Fuel Heating Systems

FortisBC relaunched its dual fuel rebate for installations completed on or after October 15, 2026. A dual fuel system pairs a new high-efficiency gas furnace with an electric heat pump. The heat pump heats and cools your home most of the year, and the furnace takes over when it gets cold.

BC Hydro

BC Hydro Heat Pump Rebate:
Switching From Electric Heat

If your home is heated mainly by electric baseboards or an electric furnace, the BC Hydro heat pump rebate is the main heat pump rebate in BC for you:

Key rules

Income-qualified homeowners may get a higher CleanBC heat pump rebate through the province’s income-qualified programs instead.

Federal

National Heat Pump Rebate (Federal, Coming Soon)

On October 8, 2026, the federal government announced the National Heat Pump Rebate, a 2 billion dollar program and the newest heat pump rebate for BC homeowners:

It isn’t open yet. The government is aiming to launch in early 2027 and is exploring whether installations before launch could qualify, but that hasn’t been confirmed. The rules on combining it with FortisBC or BC Hydro rebates haven’t been published either. We’ll update this page as soon as they are.

Should you wait?

If your system is working, it may be worth getting a quote now and timing the install once the rules are clear. If your furnace or baseboards are failing, don’t wait: the BC programs are open today.

New builds

Rebates for New Homes:
FortisBC New Home Program

New construction doesn’t qualify for the rebates above. Builders can instead apply to FortisBC’s New Home Program, which offers incentives for homes that reach higher BC Energy Step Code levels with qualifying equipment. It needs a program-qualified energy advisor and has deadlines, so plan it at the design stage.

FAQ

Heat Pump Rebate FAQ

For gas-heated homes, it’s the FortisBC income-qualified dual fuel rebate of up to $8,000. For electric-heated homes, it’s BC Hydro’s whole-home rebate of up to $4,000. The federal National Heat Pump Rebate has been announced but isn’t open yet.

If it’s working well, waiting can make sense, since 15 years is the minimum for the FortisBC dual fuel rebate. If it’s failing, compare the cost of repairs with the rebate you’d get later. We can help you weigh it up.

Not from FortisBC right now. The dual fuel rebate requires a new furnace and a heat pump together.

You pay the contractor, then apply and receive the rebate from the program. Processing can take weeks to months.

Yes. These are provincial and federal programs, so they apply across the Fraser Valley, not just in Abbotsford.

No. BC Hydro and FortisBC rebates require installation by a registered contractor.
