Mini Split Installation Services in Abbotsford

A ductless mini split is a heat pump without the ducts. An outdoor unit connects to one or more slim indoor units through a small hole in the wall, and each indoor unit heats and cools its own space with its own controls.

That makes it the simplest way to add efficient heating and air conditioning to an Abbotsford home that was built without ductwork, or to fix the rooms your furnace never quite reaches. Our ductless mini split installation in Abbotsford starts with a free visit, a room-by-room heat load calculation and a written quote, so you get the right number and size of units for each room.

Is a Ductless Mini Split Right for Your Home?

Mini splits are the best fit for:

Homes with electric baseboards

Many older Abbotsford homes, especially in Clearbrook and Historic Downtown, were built with baseboard heat and no ducts. A mini split heat pump uses roughly a third to a half of the electricity of baseboards for the same heat, and adds cooling.

Basement suites

A separate zone gives your tenant their own heat and AC, and stops arguments over the thermostat.

Coach houses, additions and garden suites

No need to extend ductwork from the main house.

Hot upstairs bedrooms

Two-storey homes on Sandy Hill, Auguston and Eagle Mountain often run several degrees warmer upstairs in July. A single head in the hallway or main bedroom fixes it without touching the furnace.

Garages, shops and home offices

Year-round comfort in spaces your main system doesn’t reach.

If your home already has good ductwork, a ducted heat pump is usually the better choice.

ControlOne thermostatEach room set separately
CostLowerHigher up front, but one outdoor unit instead of several

We’ll also help you choose the indoor unit style: wall-mounted heads are the most common and most affordable, while ceiling cassettes and slim ducted units hide almost completely for a cleaner look.

Where the indoor heads go matters. We place each head high on an inside or outside wall where air can spread across the room, away from beds and sofas so no one sits in a direct draft. In open-plan main floors, one head can often cover the kitchen, dining and living areas. Bedrooms with closed doors usually need their own head. We also plan the condensate line so it drains by gravity where possible, which avoids a noisy pump.

Cold climate

Cold-Climate Mini Splits for Abbotsford Winters

Abbotsford’s winters are mostly mild and wet, which is where heat pumps are at their best. But Arctic outflows can push temperatures well below freezing; in January 2024 the city dropped to −15.4°C. We install cold-climate mini splits that keep heating well below freezing, many rated down to −25°C or colder.

01

Free in-home estimate

We look at each room, your electrical panel and where the outdoor unit can go quietly.

02

Load calculation

Each room is sized separately, so no head is too big or too small.

03

Written quote

Equipment, number of zones, electrical work, permits and line set covers, line by line.

04

Permits

We pull the electrical permit. Refrigerant work is done by licensed refrigeration mechanics, as BC requires.

05

Installation

Usually one day for one or two zones: indoor heads mounted, a small hole through the wall, line sets run in covers, outdoor unit set and wired.

06

Commissioning

We pressure-test and vacuum the lines, charge the system, test heating and cooling and show you the remote or app.

DIY mini split kits are widely sold, but a poor refrigerant connection or the wrong-size unit can cost more to fix than a professional install. In BC, refrigerant work must be done by a licensed technician.

FAQ

Ductless Mini Split FAQ

The outdoor unit pulls heat from the outside air in winter and pumps it indoors through refrigerant lines to the indoor head. In summer it reverses and moves heat out. Each indoor head has its own fan and controls.

Most single- and two-zone systems are installed in one day. Larger multi-zone systems take one to two days, plus any panel upgrade.

Yes, in many homes. A multi-zone system with a head in each main area can heat and cool a whole baseboard home. Open-plan homes need fewer heads than homes with many small rooms.

No. Indoor heads are quieter than a fridge on their low setting, and outdoor units run at about 45 to 55 decibels. We place the outdoor unit away from bedroom windows and property lines.

No. Most homeowners keep them as backup for the coldest days and simply stop using them most of the year.

Rinse or vacuum the indoor filters every month or two, and book a professional cleaning once a year to clear the coil, drain and fan.
